Gary Ray Black, 68 of Clover, SC, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Levine Dickson Hospice House-Southminister, Charlotte, NC.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Clover, SC with the Rev. Marvin Caldwell officiating.  The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service.

Mr. Black was born August 23, 1949 in Gastonia, NC to the late Clyde Ray and Rachel Galyan Black.  He was a graduate of Hunter Huss High School, Gastonia, NC and graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature.   From 1987 to 2016 he worked at Mecklenburg County Health Department as Health Educator, Director, & Producer of Health Films.  Mr. Black was the co-founder of the American Public Health Association Film Festival and helped establish the same organization for England, under the direction of John Ashton, MD.  He was active in the Town of Clover Community, donating his time and film talents and was active with the Roosevelt Community “Back to School Bash”.

Survivors are his wife Debbie Moore-Black; daughters Devin Elise Black of Charleston, SC, Lauren Rise` Black of Clover, SC; son David Taylor Black and daughter-in-law Gina Black of Rock Hill, SC; and granddaughter Nova Rae Black. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, David Lynn Black.
