Hugh Thompson

Hubert S. Thompson, Jr, age 70, of Charlotte, NC died May 31, 2017 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster. 

The funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, 15000 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.   The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, June 3rd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

Hugh was born March 8, 1947 to the late Hubert Starr, Sr. and Bennie Winget Thompson.  A 1965 graduate of South Mecklenburg High School, he attended Lees-McRae College and was honorably discharged from the US Army.  Hugh took pleasure in working on his family farm, and was an active member of the Stumptown Tractor Club.  He cherished the times he spent with his family, and enjoyed close relationships with an extended group of cousins as well.  A life-long member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, Hugh served as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Men of the Church.  Following his retirement after 30 plus years with the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, he volunteered with the Red Cross, and served in a variety of roles with the Board of Elections. 

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jean, daughter Laura, son Harry (Meredith), granddaughter Alaina, sister Mary Hammond, and an aunt, Jane W. Harper.
