James Taze Bennett, 95, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at home.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 19, 2016 in Woodside Cemetery with the Rev. Jon Simons officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born in York, SC on September 27, 1920, Mr. Bennett was the son of the late Ada Mae Moon Bennett and Edward A. Bennett.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Bennett served from 1941 to 1945 in the Army Air Corps throughout Europe and North Africa as a flight trainer. He was a longtime member of the Clover Presbyterian Church having served as both a Deacon and Elder, was a Shriner and received his seventy-year certificate as a Master Mason in 2015.

Following a long career with the York County Health Department, he retired in 1983.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 74 years, Ruby McCarter Bennett; son, James McCarter (Jim) Bennett; son-in-law, Edward H. (Edd) Harvey; a brother, W. Eugene (Gene) Bennett; sisters, Juanita B. Boyd, Ozelle B. Yarborough, Melva B. Ramsey, Inez Bennett and Nettie Mae Bennett.

He is survived by his daughter, Anita B. Harvey, of Clover; daughter-in-law, Marsha S. Bennett, of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Brad Harvey (Allison) of Clover, Cameron H. Williams (Scott) of Clover, Holly B. Robertson (Stewart) of Lexington, SC, Kelly B. Wiley of Lexington, SC, Brad Hopkins (Keli) of Knoxville, TN and Scott Hopkins (Selena) of Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchildren, Maggie Harvey and Xander Williams of Clover, Logan Wiley, Bennett and Ella Robertson of Lexington, SC, Greer, Jax and Lily James Hopkins of Rock Hill, SC, Abbey, Walker and Harper Hopkins of Knoxville, TN, along with special family friends and caregivers, Pat Gunn of Gastonia, NC and Jean Lawson of Clover.

Memorials may be made to the Clover Presbyterian Church, 202 Kings Mountain St, Clover, SC 29710.
