Jean Gettys (Edwards) Jackson

Jean Gettys Edwards Jackson, 93, Clover, SC passed peacefully to heaven on February 15, 2016.
 
Jean was born and raised in Gastonia, NC to the late Robert Walter Edwards, Jr. and Annie Leola Garrison Edwards.  She was married in 1947 to the late Robert (Bob) Patterson Jackson, Jr.
 
She graduated from Gastonia High School in 1939 and Erskine College in 1943.  After teaching school 4 years in North Carolina, she moved to Clover, SC and taught school at Kinard Elementary for 33 years.  Many of Clover’s outstanding citizens remember fondly their early childhood school experience with “Miss Jean” as their teacher and she could always recall every child from her teaching history.
 
She and Bob enjoyed traveling the US, Canada and Europe.
 
Jean was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher’s organization.  She was an active member of her community and church, serving in many leadership roles over her life in Clover.  Her community involvement included being a docent to Brattonsville, a charter member of the Clover Woman’s Club, a 60 year member of the Clover Bridge Club, and an active member of the Kings Mtn. Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
 
As an active member of the Clover Presbyterian Church, she served in many capacities:  member of the Ladies Bible class, Circle chairman multiple times, and hostess for the Clover church for 5 years. She was presented the Honorary Life Membership for outstanding service to the church, an honor she proudly cherished.
She was friendly, outgoing and treasured family, friends, and her faith.
 
Survivors include her daughter Susan Jackson Joyner (Paul) residing in Clover, SC, sons Robert Patterson Jackson, III (Jennifer) residing in Corona Del Mar, CA, and J. Mark Jackson (Lee), residing in Clover, SC.  Her grandchildren are Patterson Elizabeth Joyner, Robert Patterson Jackson, IV, David Harris Jackson, and Samuel Camden Jackson.  Also, two step-grandchildren, Justin Tedder (Bonnie) and Ashley Tedder Denny (John).
She was predeceased in death by her parents and three brothers, Erskine Edwards, Lyle Edwards and Robert Edwards, and one sister Margaret Pursley.  Her husband of 60 years, Robert P. Jackson, Jr., died in 2007.  She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
 
Graveside service will be 3 pm  Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Woodside Cemetery in Clover followed by a 3:30 pm Memorial service at Clover Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Douglass Key and Rev. Steven Brumley officiating. The family will receive friends following the Memorial service in the Church fellowship hall.  Memorials in honor of Jean are requested to be sent to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
