William Harold Biggerstaff, Jr.

William Harold (Bill) Biggerstaff, Jr., 50, of 901 West Elm, St, Shelby, NC died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 23 at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Clover, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3.

Mr. Biggerstaff was born December 22, 1962 in Jacksonville, NC to the late William Harold Biggerstaff and Jean Settlemyre Biggerstaff.  He was employed as a sales/accounts representative with Panacea Biofuels Corporation in Greer, SC. He was active in Boy Scouts of America, earned his Eagle Scout status at age 14, and earned his Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil Honors in the Order of the Arrow, as well as being active in many scouting lodges and had a strong commitment to mentoring younger scouts who desired to excel to the higher ranks of scouting. He enjoyed collecting Boy Scout memorabilia and was known worldwide in the patch trading circuit. His other hobbies included being an outdoor sportsman. He worked for many years in the outdoor sporting goods industry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an excellent marksman, enjoyed sporting clay competitions, training and working sporting dogs, and teaching and being active in many outdoor sportsman arenas. He was affiliated with the Schiele Museum and enjoyed being a part of the Camping in the Old Style group. He had great knowledge and a love for Catawba pottery. He was well known for his drive to pursue his life passions and was a great friend and mentor to many in these fields. He was preceded in death by his father, William Harold Biggerstaff, Sr, his paternal grandparents, Ford and Janie Biggerstaff, and maternal grandparents, Walter “Cowboy” and Eugenia Settlemyre.
He is survived by a loving family including his wife, Amy Mayes Biggerstaff, mother, Jean Settlemyre Biggerstaff, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Craig and Kaye Mayes, Mother-in-law, Nellie Burton Mayes, neice, Sara Mayes and nephew, Caleb Mayes, his beloved Jack Russel Terrier, Mountain Laurel, as well as many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
The family wishes to thank all the friends and extended family for the overwhelming show of love and support as well as the CMC staff whose compassion and diligent efforts with him as well as with us, made a difference in this very difficult journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Piedmont Council, PO Box, 1059, Gastonia, NC 28054, to assist young scouts in excelling to reach high scout ranks.
