James Russell Obituary

Affectionately known to us as JP, Jim or Russ died on 11th May 2019 early in the morning.  JP, a loving husband to Virginia, is survived by his daughter, Rachel, her husband Gavin and their daughter Rhiannon.  His son, Paul and wife Angela. His Stepdaughter Jenn, her husband Jason and their children Connor, Eli.  His Stepson, Lee, his wife Abi and their children Emmaline and Eloise.  Born on the 6th November 1945, raised by loving parents Paul and Rebecca Russell in Akron OH.  “Bud” (Jim) was a member of the high school band sitting in first chair for trumpet.  Jim enlisted for Vietnam while attending Kent University, and is proud to have served his country in the artillery as 1st Lieutenant.  In Europe, in met Jan Peterson, a strong and fearless woman who became his deeply loved wife of 40 years.  Russ came back with a wife and daughter and finished his Bachelors of Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University (GO BUCKEYES).  Five years later while living in New York they gave birth to their favourite child Paul.  Professionally, JP found his passion in the field of Quality and branched out on his own, creating a visionary online training organisation (Quality Web Based Training) for the advancement of quality and standardisation in manufacturing and service industries.  Becoming an author of industry leading textbooks in the field of auditing.  As a fellowe of the American Society for Quality he became the “Rock Star” of auditors, winning the most prestigious award in American auditing “The Paul Gauthier.”  In 2009, JP lost his lifelong companion and wife suddenly.  Staying true to his blood type, JP continued to B+ and was blessed to find happiness and another true love with Virginia who opened his heart again and reignited his love of travel.  Embracing the addition of Virginia’s children created a blended family full of love, fun, and laughter. 

JP’s dedication to the Lion’s was rewarded with “The Melvin Jones Fellow” award for lifetime achievement continues after death and would like to suggest that in lieu of flowers please make donations to The River Hills/ Lake Wylie Lions Club or Imagine Church.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Imagine Church, Gordon Cornwell Theological Seminary, 14542 Choate Circle, Charlotte, NC 28273.  A reception will he held at River Hills Community Club, Lake Wylie, SC following the funeral service.
