Mary Leta (Carothers) Armstrong

Mrs. Mary Leta Carothers Armstrong, age 85, formerly of the Steele Creek Community in Charlotte, NC, died peacefully Friday, December 1, 2017 at Mease Manor nursing home in Dunedin Florida. She was surrounded by the love of her family at her passing. Mary was born February 20, 1932 to the late Mary Creighton Carothers and Thomas Frank Carothers. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Adeline Carothers and Frances Campbell and her loving husband of 60 years, Clyde Armstrong Jr.


Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Armstrong will be 1:00 PM Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends and visitors following the service.

After graduating in 1950 from Berryhill Hill School in Charlotte, NC, she married Clyde Armstrong in April of 1952 and settled in the Steele Creek community. She served as secretary to the Principle of Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC from it’s opening in 1968 until she retired in 1996.  

She attended and was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church from birth to 2009 where she served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher, and on numerous committees and teams. After relocating to Denver, NC in 2006 she joined Unity Presbyterian Church in 2009 until moving to Florida with her son in 2012. There she attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Dunedin, Florida
Her many interests included cooking, reading and enjoying time with family. Her biggest joy was cooking a large homecooked meal for the family on any occasion. 

She is survived by her loving family, son Doug Armstrong, his wife Debra and her son Don Armstrong. The apples of her eye were her two grandchildren, Carrie Armstrong of Tierra Verde, FL and Jason Armstrong of Charlotte, NC. and her beloved great granddaughter Isabella Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Mease Manor in Dunedin, FL for their loving care of Mrs. Armstrong since September of 2015.
Mary was a woman of God, walking with her Lord every step of her life. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is now wrapped in the arms of Jesus and back with the love of her life, husband Clyde Armstrong.
