Raymond C. Smith, III Age 65 of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Atrium Health Pineville, Charlotte, NC surrounded by his family.
A service of Memory and Love will be offered Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the River Hills Community Church of Lake Wylie, SC conducted by Reverend Gayle Montgomery. The family will receive friends following the service at the Church.
Mr. Smith was born November 1, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA to Audrey Bowers Smith and the late Raymond Charles Smith, Jr. He had previously lived in Haddon Heights, NJ and Fairfax, VA before moving to Leesburg, VA. He started his career as a police officer in Collingswood, NJ before transitioning into federal law enforcement with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at their headquarters in Washington, D.C. After 28 years with the Postal Inspection Service he retired to Lake Wylie in Charlotte to enjoy his true passions of fishing, poker, and traveling with his wife, Sharon. He was active in the community as a member of the Lions Club as well as the choir at River Hills community church.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon K. Smith (nee Frisk) of Charlotte, NC, daughter Alexis Berry (Jay) of Ogden, UT, daughter Ashley Poirot-Smith (Vincent) of Lyon, France, mother Audrey Smith, sister Barbara Smith (Keith), stepchildren Amy Holman (Matt) and Brian Pleasant, beloved dog Wylie, and three grandchildren.
