Robert Hugh Robinson, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at HarborChase Assisted Living in Rock Hill, SC. He was a lifelong resident of Clover, SC.
Born in Clover on April 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Robah L. Robinson, Sr. and Myrtle Biggers Robinson. He graduated from Clover High School in 1947 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1948, where he spent two years in the service.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Hugh returned to Clover, where he worked for LaFar Industries at the Bowling Green Spinning Co. for 16 years. He continued his career with LaFar as a Purchasing Agent at their office in Gastonia, NC. He retired from the company after 40 years of service.
He married his wife of 63 years, Jane Adams Robinson, in 1955 in Clover, where they raised two children and lived a full life with their family and friends. Hugh loved to travel and he ventured to many states throughout our country, as well as Canada, Mexico, and numerous countries in Europe. He also loved watching Major League baseball and attended spring training games in Florida.
Hugh was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clover for 61 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent and Chairman of the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee. He served on the Clover Town Council for 16 years, including terms as Mayor Pro-Tem. He was also a Board member of the Clover YMCA.
Hugh is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jane, of Clover, SC; son, Dan Robinson (June) of Columbia, SC; daughter, Dr. Jean R. Dickson of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Brenna Dickson, of Charleston, SC and Austen Dickson of Rock Hill, SC; sisters-in-law, Eleanor A. Jenkins (Larry) and Anne Adams; nephews Ric and Cary Robinson and Bill, Sam, and Mike Adams; nieces Catherine Robinson, Robin May, Beth Abernethy, Kim Killian, Linda Swittenberg, and Mary Helen Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robah L. Robinson, Sr. and Myrtle Biggers Robinson; two brothers, Robah L. Robinson, Jr. and Dr. Jack C. Robinson; mother-in-law, Helen A. Deaton (Odis); brothers-in-law, Sam Adams, Sr. and Jerry Adams; sisters-in-law, Joyce Robinson, Josephine Robinson, and Elsie Adams.
The family is very grateful to their friends, neighbors, and family members for their love and support. They also thank the First United Methodist Church Men's Club for their help. Thanks also to the employees of Pruitt Home Health and HarborChase Assisted Living of Rock Hill, and Providence Care Hospice of York, SC for their loving care during Hugh's recent illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 13, 2018 in Clover at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tommy Wilkes and Rev. Larry Jenkins officiating. Interment will be private.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Clover, SC 29710. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Clover, 124 Bethel St., Clover, SC 29710.
