Steve Grissom

Steve D. Grissom passed away on September 2nd, 2017 at age 74. He was the son of William H. and Wilma McCarter Grissom. Steve is survived by his wife, Juanita Suzanne Stanton Grissom and his step-children Jeff Bryant, Jenny Searcy, Jackie Baucom, Julie Christy and step grandchildren Morgan Bryant, Jordan Bryant, Bryant Baucom, Brandon Baucom, Katie Searcy, Caroline Christy and Nate Christy.

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St, Clover, conducted by the Rev. Chuck Baynard. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Steve will be missed and forever loved by all that had the privilege to know him.

After graduating from Clover High School, Steve earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC in 1966.  Steve dedicated his professional career to helping those in need through administration of social services. Early in his career, Steve led one of the first pilot programs (York, SC) at the inception of the National Food Stamp Program.  After the successful implementation of this program, statewide implementation began across South Carolina in 1968. Steve continued to serve in roles of increasing responsibility and ultimately retired as Director, Florence County Department of Social Services.

Steve possessed business management skills, maintained positive employee relationships, and established a favorable community and media presence. Steve had an even-tempered personality and a strong work ethic.

In addition to his social work, Steve was also a member of the South Carolina National Guard from 1966 to 1972. 

Steve was a passionate sports fan of the University of South Carolina and rarely missed any game in which the Gamecocks were competing. Steve was also an avid deer hunter and enjoyed spending time with his buddies at the hunting camp.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the American Heart Association.
