Anthony Lamicella Obituary

Anthony Ronald Lamicella, 85, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Anthony was born June 12, 1938, in New York City to the late Joseph Lamicella and Helen Sapinsky. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Caroline Paula Cheuvront Lamicella, his brother, Aleck Lamicella, and his half-brother Teddy Lamicella.

He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Helen Rose and Mariann Adele Kalinski; his sons, Anthony Ronald Lamicella, Jr., Joseph George Lamicella, and John Paul Lamicella; his brother, Sammy Lamicella; his eleven grandchildren, Nicholas, Bill, Chris, Jackie, Geanna, Nikko, J.R., Austin, Evan, A.J., and Andrea; and eight great-grandchildren.

While a young teenager in Manhattan, he met the love of his life and shortly after, fell head over heels. They were married on January 10, 1959, raised five children, and eventually settled in Hopatcong, NJ.

Throughout his 50+ year career, his work life was comprised of many different roles, including working at the Fulton Fish Market, various trucking and delivery rolls, working as a dock man for Teamsters Local 560, working at Rickles hardware store and in his last role, a security officer before finally retiring.

Notoriously known for being fashionably late, he thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings, Holiday dinners and parties where he was often the life of the party. He also enjoyed TV, amongst his favorite programs were the Honeymooners, the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and he was particularly fond of News 12 New Jersey and Channel 7 Eyewitness News.

Passionate about the beach and road trips, before Google Maps, he was fondly known as the “human atlas”. He loved long road trips and would often drive through the night to reach his destination! Having grown up in New York City, he was able to navigate all the boroughs which continued into his later years. If you needed directions, all you had to do was ask and he could direct you anywhere you needed to go!

He enjoyed a variety of seafood and Italian dishes, however, he had a special place in his heart for a Chinese restaurant named Hunan Taste in Denville, NJ. Back in the day, he also enjoyed a rich cigar, good Italian vino, and a nice cold beer!

He also enjoyed boating on Lake Hopatcong with family and grandkids. His love of music was vast, but he was particularly fond of classic love songs from the 50’s, country music and even disco! One of his favorites was a classic 80’s disco song called ‘Mandolay’. As soon as he heard it, he would make space, grab a partner, or dance solo, and bust a move so much so as to give John Travolta a run for his money!

He was a gentle, compassionate, and kind soul, who was always willing to help those who needed a hand. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew and loved him.
