Mrs. Barbara Ford Quinn, 88, of Clover, SC, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, SC.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Clover Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sam Roberson and Rev. William L. Barron officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service at the Church.
Mrs. Quinn was born September 2, 1932 in Clover, SC to the late Oscar Edmund and Elvie Jackson Ford. She was the widow of Jackson “Jack” McCarter Quinn.
During her teen and college years, Barbara was an accomplished equestrian and showed 3- and 5-Gaited American Saddlebred Horses across the Southeast. In her final show as an amateur in a field of professionals, she won the 3-Gaited Grand Championship.
Upon graduating from Winthrop with a degree in music education, Barbara married her high school sweetheart Jack and became an Army wife in 1954 and was a Fort Knox general’s secretary. After Jack’s discharge from the Army, they settled in Clover. She taught public school music for nearly 40 years in Rock Hill and Clover. During this time she was Northwestern High School’s first choral music teacher. After 17 years teaching in Rock Hill she returned to Clover to teach at Clover Junior High and Clover High Schools. During her tenure in Clover, Barbara served on the planning committee for the Clover School District Auditorium. Barbara also served as church organist and choir director in several area churches. After retiring from public school in 1994, Barbara taught private piano lessons for many years.
Barbara also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs over the years.
Survivors are her daughter, Melanie Q. Wall (Larry) of Clover, SC; grandsons, Joshua L. Wall of Hilton Head, SC, Tyler J. Wall (Kiley) of Simpsonville, SC, and W. Zachary Wall of Clover, SC; and great grandson Benjamin Wall.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beth F. Hinshaw and Harriet F. Hall.
The family graciously thanks her caregivers at Westminster Manor and Harbor Chase of Rock Hill as well as Agape Hospice and nurses at 4th floor Women’s Tower of Piedmont Medical Center. A special thank you is also extended to Pam Winders Edwards and Maxine and Johnson Murdock for spending time with Barbara over the years and throughout her illness.
