Berry Cauble Obituary

Mr. Berry Wendell Cauble, 86, of Gastonia, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Morningside of Gastonia, Gastonia, North Carolina.

Mr. Cauble was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, on August 10, 1939, to the late Aaron Worth and Nettie Lynn Cauble.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Julia Dills Cauble, his son, Aaron Samuel “Ron” Cauble, his sisters, Peggy Powell Adams, Patty C. White, and Cleo C. Brown, and his brothers-in-law, William Powell, Dawson White, Harold Brown, Gene Helton, and Billy Adams.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC, with the Rev. Andy Curtis officiating.

Berry lived his life as a passionate fan of all sports. He wore NC State red on most occasions and, later in life, donned many senior Olympic gold medals – even sharing some with younger family members to wear themselves. He was a pickle ball aficionado (before it was cool), and played countless games of golf and tennis in his spare time.

After receiving a baseball scholarship to NC State and spending his four years on the baseball team, Berry graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. He, and his beloved wife Julia, spent their life together exploring different business ventures. One of the most memorable being their son Ron’s River Rat Deli, in Charlotte, NC.  He retired from his career as director of Human Resources at Carolina Mills.  Berry was a dedicated member of Myers Memorial Church in Gastonia, NC.

You could find him cracking jokes with his four sisters and family over dinner on many Sunday evenings, or being teased by his sisters for being the “Golden Boy” sibling.  Growing up, he was the resident dance partner for many shag lessons at home with his sisters and never turned down an invitation to dance and have fun. Berry’s wit, humor, and love will be greatly missed and remembered dearly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Lynn C. Helton; his nieces and nephews, Gina Bolin (Gerald), Genie Flint (Rudy), Al Powell (Denny), Denise Holland, Neil White (Jana), Coyt Brown (Denise), Scott Brown, Cindy Smith (Troy), Artie Helton (Jackie), David Helton (Charlotte), and Randy Dills; and many beloved great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the amazing caregivers at Morningside of Gastonia for their love and companionship they showed Berry.
