Betty Ann Cooper Black of Lake Wylie, SC passed away peacefully at home on the morning of December 11, 2025. Betty Ann was born on October 24,1960 in Greenville, SC to the late James Myron and Wilma Ann (Morgan) Cooper.
Betty Ann grew up in Pickens, SC. She graduated from Pickens High School in 1979, Brevard College in 1981, and Appalachian State University in 1983. Later she completed a Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix.
After college, Betty Ann began working for the state of NC through vocational rehabilitation. There she met the handsome love of her life, Reid Black. They married in 1985and began their life together in Lake Wylie, SC. They enjoyed lake life with each other and all the friends and family who shared time with her.
The second love of her life, their son James came along in 1991. She spoiled James beyond measure and was so very proud of him and his new family. The third love and total joy of her life, grandson Elijah James, came along in 2024. She was a wonderful grandmother.
Over the past three years Betty Ann was a daily caregiver for her husband after he lost the ability to walk. Her mother, Ann was an amazing nurse, and as though she learned by example, Betty Ann adapted to her role as caregiver with competence, dedication, and love.
Betty Ann loved people and had an overflowing network of friends, many of whom shared college years together or were neighbors. She and Reid often traveled and loved going to the beach and the mountains. Her frequent errands were good excuses to go shopping, look for bargains, and buy gadgets. Around holidays she would bake poundcakes to give away using her mother’s recipe.
Betty Ann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Reid Black, son and daughter-in-law, James and M.G. Black, and grandson E.J.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth (Black) and Richard Smith, grandchildren, Greg and Abigail; brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Rhonda Cooper; chosen family, Tonya (Easterly) and Jeffrey Vickery, Elizabeth and Ally; one neice and several nephews.
