Beulah Fay Carroll woke up in Heaven on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Born January 18, 1925 in Wayne County, WV, to the late Dency Dewey Hazlett and Pearl Virgie Stewart Hazlett, and she was the beloved wife of the late John Henry Carroll. She is survived by her only child, Dr. Anita Sue Pauley (Larry) of Lake Wylie, SC; two grand-daughters, Stefanie Shealey (Burney) of Landrum, SC and Laura Lockey (Bill) of Lake Wylie, SC; and three great grandchildren, Cooper Shealey, Will Lockey, and Juliet Lockey.
She is also survived by her siblings, Martha Roberts, Gloria McKenzie, and Maxine Richmond of Prichard, WV, Maxey Hazlett of Birmingham, AL, and Sharon Williams (Donald) of Paintsville, KY, along with numerous nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Bootie.
Siblings who predeceased her include, Elmer Black, Shirley Wheeler, Naomi Hall, Harold Hazlett and Arnold Hazlett.
After graduating from Buffalo High School and then working as a “Rosie the Riveter, “she married her high school sweetheart, John Henry. They settled in Scioto County, OH, where she began her career as a beautician and operated a beauty shop in her home. After John’s retirement from the N & W Railroad, they spent 20 happy years in Sarasota, FL before moving back to WV and NC. She loved spending time with her family and spent her last year’s being the best Mom and Mamaw.
Her Christian journey began as a young girl in Smith Memorial Methodist Church in Prichard, WV. Through the years she served the Lord faithfully wherever they lived – First Church of God in New Boston, OH, Sarasota, FL, and Huntington, WV. Recently she enjoyed fellowship with friends at Shiloh Baptist Church, Monroe, NC, and Imagine Church, Lake Wylie, SC.
She was always ready with a casserole or a plate of brownies for friends and neighbors but her needlecraft skills will be most cherished. In the early years she sewed most of the clothes for her young daughter along with matching outfits for the dolls. Later she made special dresses for her granddaughters and finally she provided crocheted blankets for all of the great grandbabies. Through the years she spent countless hours making quilts, doilies and other crocheted items which will be cherished family heirlooms. But her enduring love for Jesus and for her family remains her special legacy.
