Charles Raymond McClure, Jr., age 70 of Lake Wylie, SC died September 24, 2018 at home.
Memorial service will be held 4:30 Thursday, September 27, 2018 at River Hills Community Church, Lake Wylie, SC. A Celebration of Life will follow the service at the River Hills Marina Club.
Mr. McClure was born September 30, 1947 in Charlotte, NC to the late Charles R. and Thelma Estelle Lewis McClure.
Mr. McClure was a graduate of NC State University and a true “Wolfpacker” at heart. He loved fishing and won awards from Mecklenburg Bassmaster to Southern Kingfish Association National Champion. An avid runner, he was famous for his “McClure Shuffle”. He ran enough miles during his lifetime to circle the earth three times. He owned and operated his own textile brokerage company. Charles was best known, though, for his tremendous positive energy and his ability to never meet a stranger. He was beloved by all- especially his four girls and grandchildren. Charles married his high school sweetheart, and they were happily married for 47 years. He recently said his greatest accomplishment was his three daughters. He was truly a devoted husband and family man.
Survivors are his wife Penny Sawyer McClure, daughters Betsy Heintz (Jeff) of Anderson, SC, Mary Stratford Lake (Jonathan) of Fort Mill, Anna Litzenberger (Justin) of Fort Mill, sister Estelle Scott of Atlanta, GA,
Grandchildren Carter Redmond, Sawyer Redmond, Evan Lake, Madison Lake, Charlie Lake, Anna Heintz, Andrew Heintz, Abigail Heintz and Emily Heintz. He is also survived by his father in law Charles Sawyer of Mt. Holly, NC.
Memorials may be made to Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail, P. O. Box 957, Chapin, SC 29036 or MADD, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 116, Columbia, SC 29204.
