Mr. Clyde Billy Metcalf, 91, of York, SC, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, at home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Oakdale Presbyterian Church, 12585 W. Highway 55, Clover, SC, with the Rev. Terry Feaster officiating. The reception of family and friends will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC, at 3:00 p.m.
Mr. Metcalf was born July 4, 1932, in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Jacob Edgar and Elela Jane Dixon Metcalf. He served 4 years with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Maddox and also served 16 years with the U.S. Air Force. He was a 32nd degree Freemason and was an active member of the American Legion for over 50 years. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 27 years as a Locomotive Engineer.
He and his wife of 70 years, the late Joyce Smith Metcalf, owned and operated Metcalf Family Farms in their later years and were members of Oakdale Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, farming, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors are his daughter Darlene M. Gardiner (Gary) of York, SC; son Mick Metcalf (Alicia) of Iron Station, NC; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
