Mr. Donald McLean Wylie, Jr., Esquire, 77, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at home.
Mr. Wylie was born on August 31, 1948, in Bennington, VT, to the late Donald McLean Wylie, Sr. and Emma Gertrude Mitchell Wylie.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy Ann Gromowski Wylie; his daughter, Devon (Susan) Wylie; his grandsons, Kian Zachar and Zoran Zachar; and his sister, Patricia Yarnell.
Don practiced business law and was a county attorney in Florida. He devoted much of his time providing free legal advice for the disadvantaged. He was a founding member of the Albert Hoffman Foundation and was involved with many other organizations that provided alternative therapies for drug addictions.
He was also the great grandson of the late Dr. Walter Gil Wylie, a surgeon and civil engineer who developed operational procedures for the nation’s hospitals, organized the first nursing school at Bellevue Hospital in New York, and introduced hydroelectrical power to the Carolinas.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
