Dr. George Knight, III Obituary

Dr. George William Knight III, 89, of Lake Wylie, SC has gone to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2021, at home.

Graveside service will be private, family only, on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the River Hills/Lake Wylie Cemetery with the Rev. Cliff Blair officiating.

Dr. Knight was born 1931 in Sanford, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Knight Jr. and Margaret Allison Torrance Knight, and a son, Vann M. Knight.

Survivors are his wife Virginia Sergeant Knight; children George W Knight IV of Clover, SC; Lisa D. Knight of Webster Groves MO; Margaret K. Clifford (Ron) of West Plains, MO; Jennie C. K. Rotherham (Simon) of Lake Wylie, SC; and Hugh T. Knight (Trish) of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Dr. Knight was an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. He was theologian, author, preacher, churchman, and adjunct professor of New Testament at Greenville Presbyterian Theological seminary. Formerly, he was the founding Dean and Professor of New Testament at Knox Theological Seminary. Prior to that appointment, he taught New Testament and New Testament Greek at Covenant Theological Seminary in MO. He was the founding pastor of Covenant Church of Naples in Naples, FL, and has served numerous other churches in PCA and OPC.

He graduated from Davidson College and Westminster Theological Seminary and earned his doctorate from Free University of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
