Mrs. Emily Smith Sutton, 92, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Lake Wylie Assisted Living. She was a joy filled wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A devout follower of Jesus, Emily’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she shared His love with everyone she met.

Emily was born March 12, 1933, in Charlotte, NC, to the late David Epps Smith and Anna Gerick Smith.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Carl W. Sutton, Sr., her son, David Martin “Marty” Sutton, her sister, Juanita Windell, and her brother, Kenneth Smith.

She cherished her family deeply and was always a source of positivity and joy to those around her. Emily loved living on the lake, where she found peace in the beauty of God’s creation. She worked alongside many of her family members at the family- owned business, BITSCO. Emily was a past member and Sunday school teacher of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and later a member and Sunday school teacher of Clover First Baptist Church.  She was a member of the last graduating class from Berryhill High School, Charlotte, NC.

Emily’s legacy of faith, joy and love will be carried on by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her grace, her laughter, her wit, and her steadfast devotion to both her Lord and her family.

She is survived by her sons, Carl “Chris” Sutton, Jr. (Debbie) and Kevin Sutton (Shelley); her daughter-in-law, Lynn Jones (Joel); her grandchildren, Jeremy Sutton (Meghan), Joshua Sutton (Melissa), Kayla Lassiter (Taylor), Savannah Locklear (Forrest), Garrett Sutton (Ariel), Pierce Sutton, and Falon Sutton (Shay); and her great-grandchildren, Annabelle Sutton, Molly Sutton, Rose Sutton, Dorothy “Dot” Sutton, Margot Lassiter, and Murray Lassiter.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Clover First Baptist Church, 117 S. Main Street, Clover, SC.  Interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens, 1774 Filbert Hwy., York, SC.  The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
