Ernest Holden Obituary

Beloved Husband, Father, Proud Papa, and Cherished Friend passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Ernie was born in Blackburn, England to Victoria and Ernest Holden.  Ernie was their youngest son and a brother to Alan and Albert.  Ernie was a tool and die maker by training who was determined to build a successful life and career in America.

He met the love of his life, Patricia, in 1958 and he found the perfect partner who shared his dreams.  They were wed on October 31, 1959 in Blackburn.  In July, 1960, they boarded the QE2 and set sail for the United States.

They settled in Cleveland, Ohio, and welcomed their children, Joanne, Gary, and Debra.  Ernie was bright, ambitious, and focused on providing for his family.  Ernie built a very successful career in Sales and Operations Management for several companies focusing on industrial clients.  He was very skilled and knowledgeable and combined his practical experience with his love of engineering.  He was a lifelong learner and always encouraged his children to pursue their dreams.

The family of John and Hilary Terry were hugely important to Ernie and Patricia and they celebrated many memorable gatherings and holidays together.  Ernie and Patricia were also proud members of the congregation of St. Mark's and he dedicated much time and effort to their Church family.

Following their move to Charlotte, NC, in June, 1980, Ernie would continue to contribute to his community.  He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, the Community Cafe, and was a devoted member and teacher of several Bible Study groups.  He was a regular donor to Red Cross and he strongly supported their mission.

Ernie was a big believer in his family's future, and he was a proud citizen and a man of integrity.  He was loyal, dedicated, and held strong to his faith throughout his lifetime.  He was a loving and devoted family man and he cherished his lovely bride for 65+ years.

Ernie and Patricia always had a sense of adventure, and they loved to travel and explore many countries throughout the world.  He was always in motion, and thoroughly enjoyed his excursions on motorcycles, in sports cars, and on boats.  He also cultivated a lifelong hobby with model trains which gave him real joy and satisfaction before and during his retirement.

He was inspiring and beloved and he was immensely proud of his wife, children, and grandson, Derek.  Ernie had a special relationship with Lewis Melton (Joanne) and they worked on many projects together.

In true British fashion, he would enjoy the occasional room temperature beer, or a sip of Scotch.  Ernie had a great appetite for life, and was always mindful of the many blessings he received by virtue of his hard work and the love and support of his family.  Ernie's faith was strong and offered him much comfort and inspiration his entire life.

Ernie was a member of the Community Church of Lake Wylie for 30+ years.  He and Patricia were grateful for their friendship with Pastor Bob Jack, and so many others while living at River Hills.

It remains true that Ernie could fix anything, including, but not limited to cars, appliances, and, on occasion, the tender hearts of his children.  His quick smile, compassion, keen wit, and beautiful blue eyes will never be forgotten.  He was a good and generous man and his life will be cherished and celebrated forever.

A private memorial service will be held in February.

The family wishes to thank his care teams at Lake Wylie Assisted Living and Agape Care Group.

If desired, a donation in his honor/memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Park Road., Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209 www.alz.org/northcarolina
