Frances Eckel Obituary

Frances Hambright Eckel passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family.  Born in Clover, SC to the late Fred Kay Hambright and Christine Smith Hambright.

Frances attended Clover High School graduating in 1958.  After high school, Frances attended the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and a majorette in the Fighting Gamecock USC Marching Band, graduating in 1962 with a degree in Secretarial Studies.  Frances lived most of her adult life in Marion, SC and Wilmington, NC where she worked as the Executive Assistant at Shell Island Resort on Wrightsville Beach for many years.  In 2009, Frances relocated to Charlotte, NC to be near family.  She was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and active in the church choir.  She loved her church family and would seldom miss a Sunday Service.  Frances enjoyed playing in her weekly bridge group and spending time with friends and family. 

Frances is preceded in death by her husband John Albert Eckel and survived by her son Robert Warren Derrick (Kelly) of Columbus, GA and her daughter Karen Derrick Fairley (Dan) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Kathryn Elizabeth Derrick and Sarah Margaret Derrick of Greenville, SC, Warren Montgomery Derrick of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Julia Lumpkin Derrick of Columbia, SC, James Daniel Fairley, III and Smith Whitton Fairley of Charlotte, NC.

Donations in Frances’ memory may be made to Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207.
