Franklin "Bo" Owings, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Franklin “Bo” Marlow Owings, Jr., 65, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at home.

Mr. Owings was born November 9, 1959 in Rochester, NY to the late Franklin Marlow Owings, Sr. and Ethel Valborg Johnsen Owings.  His parents moved to River Hills in 1978, forming his bond with the Lake Wylie community.  He then attended Clemson University.

If there was a sports game in progress, Bo was watching.  Many will remember him as an avid Clemson fan, typically sporting some fan gear, or cruising around River Hills on the Clemson themed golf cart.  Sports and politics were two of his favorite topics of conversation.

Project Healing Waters combined two of Bo’s passions, helping military vets and fly fishing. He went on many trips as a guide helping the mission.

One could describe Bo as a man of many talents.  He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone, making them feel welcome and at ease.  A dinner invitation was never turned down to the Owings home.  Bo’s culinary talents were enjoyed by many.

His family was his pride and joy.  Bo’s bond with children was typically instant.  His most recent hobby was spending as much time as he could with his newest granddaughter, Kinley.

Survivors are his wife Karen Owings; Children: Caitlin Hinson (Eric), Mica Pewitt (Jeremy), Regan DeHaven, Derek Leslie (Julia), Brother, Bear Owings (Janet), Sisters, Anne Owings Futch (Don), Kate Owings Howell (Ben); Grandchildren: Kinley Hinson, John David Pewitt, Eli Pewitt, Charlie Pewitt, Topher DeHaven, Olivia DeHaven, Aria Leslie; Aunt: Kitty Mellor; Nieces and Nephew: Alexandra Owings, Anna Howell, Leah Howell, Sean Futch, Michael Lucas (Taylor) Courtney Stanbery; Great nieces: Irie Stanbery and Adelaide Stanbery, and many other close family members.  He also leaves behind his special “Wash & Wear” friends: Tom Roberts & Ralph Williams and Rob & Cindy Fischmann.

A Celebration of Life will be from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the River Hills Country Club.  Clemson attire is encouraged.

Memorials may be made to the River Hills EMS, 152 Heritage Drive, Lake Wylie, SC 29710 www.rhems.org in Bo’s memory.
