Mr. George Thomas “Tom” Tipton, Jr. (age 81/82), of Lake Wylie, SC died on May 14, 2024, at his home in Lake Wylie.
Born May 27, 1942, in Kingsport, TN to Helen S. Tipton (Weddle) and George Thomas Tipton. Mr. Tipton graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga and attended The University of Tennessee graduating from East Tennessee State University with a BS in Chemistry. Mr. Tipton was employed with Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN for 31 years and was the Northern Area Sales Manager at the time of his retirement.
Mr. Tipton was an avid golfer who listened to old-time country music and enjoyed fishing with family and friends.
Mr. Tipton was pre-deceased by his father, George Thomas Tipton, who died in WWII, and his mother, Helen S. Weddle. He is also pre-deceased by his best friend and wife of 45 years, Toni Tipton, who passed away in 2022. Mr. Tipton is survived by his half-brothers William Weddle, Jr. of VA and Robert Weddle of NC, special cousin Becca Wright (Allen) and children Barbara Leigh “BJ” Tipton (Tanuj Kulkarni) of Hillsborough, NC; George Thomas Tipton, III (Julie) of Christiansburg, VA; Kristina Meacham (Terry) of Fort Mill, SC; and Patrick Howard of Kingsport, TN. Mr. Tipton is also survived by five grandchildren, Aaron, Morgan, and Zane Tipton (George & Julie Tipton); Matthew and Andrew Meacham (Kris & Terry Meacham); and two great-grandchildren, Blaine and Cylas Linkous (Morgan Tipton).
Mr. Tipton’s family would like to thank the teams at Visiting Angels (especially Clara and Tiffany) and Epic Care Health (hospice) for the support they provided Mr. Tipton and his family. A special thank you is also extended to Jennifer Saul and her family (Out and About Pet Sitting), whom “Mr. T” regarded as family. Over the years, both Miss Beasley and Mr. Tipton benefited from their dedication, reliability, and love.
Mr. Tipton had numerous opportunities to appreciate the responsive and professional services provided by the River Hills – Lake Wylie Emergency Medical Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the River Hills (4 Heritage Dr, Lake Wylie, SC 29710) or a charity of choice.
M. L. Ford & Sons will be handling a small graveside gathering at the River Hills Cemetery and Columbarium (105 Hamiltons Ferry Rd, Lake Wylie, SC) at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
