Gloria Cauthen Obituary

Mrs. Gloria Dean Hinkle Cauthen, 77, of Clover, SC, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024, with her devoted husband by her side, after a courageous fight against Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). She was predeceased by her parents, Elbia and Inez Sisson Hinkle; her brother, Jim Hinkle, and her nephew, Bradley Hinkle.

Born January 5, 1947 in Circleville, OH, Gloria was a graduate of South High School and attended Capital University and Ohio State University.  She was a longtime resident of the Carolinas, where she was a partner and founder of SCMS, Inc.

Gloria was a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. Nothing can ever compare to the fierce love she had for her family.  She was a loyal friend to many and very active in her communities. Bob and Gloria were inaugural Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers season ticket holders, and they attended as many Clemson games as their schedule allowed.  Gloria was a talented writer, passionate about cooking (and entertaining), and brilliantly creative.  She and Bob were often attending or hosting a myriad of themed or costumed-parties.  Both avid gardeners, their beautiful home and yard were perpetually in bloom.  Gloria could sing any song as gracefully as she could dance to it. She was nurturing and caring, fun and spontaneous, grounded and grateful.  She was joy, in the truest sense of the word.

In addition to supporting her grandchildren’s sporting and school events, Gloria was a member of River Hills Women’s Club, River Hills Yacht Club, River Hills Garden Club, and served on various committees at River Hills Country Club.  She was also a member of York County Republican Women, Avanti Social Club, Edisto Island Yacht Club, a South Charlotte Gourmet Dinner Club (the “Pigs”), a Lake Wylie Dinner Club, a Lake Wylie Martini Club, and the matriarch of Long Branch Plantation Sporting Club, proudly joining her two sons and their children.

Gloria’s memory will forever be cherished by her friends and surviving family; her adoring husband of 47 years, Robert “Bob” Henry Cauthen, Jr.; sons Benjamin “Ben” Robert Cauthen (Crystal) of Clover, SC and Matthew “Matt” Scott Cauthen (Megan) of Charlotte, NC. Gloria was affectionately known as “G” to her beloved grandchildren, Finn Robert, Townes Albert and Sawyer Ann. She is also survived by her sister, Cathy Hinkle Wilson of Lancaster, OH; sister-in-law, Bonny Rickerson of Canal Winchester, OH; sister-in-law, Judy Cauthen Nesbit (Lindsey) of Albany, GA; and sister-in-law, Jan Cauthen Wiles (Greg) of Holly Hill, SC. She was loved by several nieces and nephews, Candy Gray, Brian Adams, Brian Hinkle, Gin Cauthen Schaefer, Amy Leffman and Alisha Large.

Rev. Keith Sellers of The Good Samaritan United Methodist Church will officiate a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at River Hills/Lake Wylie Cemetery located at 105 Hamiltons Ferry Rd, Lake Wylie, SC 29710.  A Celebration of Life will follow the service at River Hills Country Club.  Carpooling is encouraged and appreciated.
