Howard Smith Obituary

ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN UPDATED!!!

Mr. Howard Dean Smith, 88, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Levine Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate, Charlotte, NC.

A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC.

Mr. Smith was born April 23, 1932 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Jessie H. and Callie Lee Calvert Smith.  He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. In 1962 he married Margaret Jarman, the love of his life. They lived on Lake Wylie where they loved their ability to feed the ducks and enjoy “Lake Living”. They were married 47 years until Margaret’s passing in 2009.

Mr. Smith was also a great brother and friend. Howard and his brother, Henry, were in the automobile business together for over 50 years and could always share a good car story. They spent many years making the long trip from Charlotte to Washington, D.C. for inventory and creating life-long friendships along the way.

Howard was a faithful member of Cramerton Memorial United Methodist Church. He will always be remembered for his signature catchphrase, “Everyday’s a Holiday”, and that is how he lived his life.

Survivors are his brother, Henry G. Smith, and several nieces and nephews.

Also, the family would like to express their appreciation to Pete Ashley and Heather Cain for their faithful friendship and companionship.
