Jack Bean Sr., 92, of Clover, South Carolina, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, NC.
Mr. Bean was born January 8, 1931, in Caldwell County, North Carolina, to the late Bascom Braswell Beane and Lettie Lissie Kaylor Beane. He is also preceded in death by four sisters, Hazel Brown, Lucille Beane, Mildred Monday, and Bennie Sue Rector and one brother, Perry Beane.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Jo Jones Bean, his daughter, Melinda Susan Newton (Ronnie), King’s Mountain, NC, his son Jack Bean Jr. (Debra), Sharon, SC, and his granddaughter, Stephanie Jo Johnson (Caleb), Las Vegas, NV.
After graduating high school Jack enlisted in the Army and served in the Signal Corps from 1949 to 1952. He survived many hardships and dangers while serving in the Korean War. After his military service, Jack moved to Jacksonville, NC where he met his wife Helen. They married in 1955, in Chesterfield, SC. They soon after moved to Greensboro, NC where Jack began his career with AT&T. While in Greensboro, they had two children. They made several moves before settling in Clover, SC in 1976.
Jack was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for many years where he served in numerous positions. He retired from AT&T in 1987. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, reading and spending time with his family.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2023, Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 2445 Hwy. 557, Clover, SC, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at the church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
