Mr. James Henry Jacobs, Sr., 85, of Clover, SC, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at home.
Graveside service will be 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 Friday at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Clover.
Mr. Jacobs was born March 8, 1933 in Jacksonville, FL to the late William Manuel and Bessie Virginia Cramer Jacobs. He was a Korean Army Veteran. “Jake” gained notoriety in the 1960’s around the Metrolina dirt oval racing community as the owner and chief mechanic of the legendary red and white J-2 late model Chevrolets. Former drivers included Dub Brown, Larry Wallace, Ervin Carpenter and Jim Vandiver. Mr. Jacobs retired from General Tire, Charlotte, NC. Following retirement, Mr. Jacobs channeled his interest into a love for bass fishing on the lake and participating in the Carolina Vintage Racing Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Jones Jacobs.
Survivors are his daughter Susan Wood Haynes (Bobby) of Clover, SC; son James H. Jacobs, Jr. (Laura) of Anniston, AL; grandchildren Jonathan Kirkpatrick, Ted W. Wood, Jr., James Walker Jacobs, and Natalie Hess Howell; and nine great grandchildren.
