James "JT" Millen Obituary

Mr. James “JT” Thomas Millen, 86, of Clover, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Atrium Health, Pineville, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at The Journey at Lake Wylie (formerly, Pine Grove Baptist Church), 5415 Hwy. 557, Lake Wylie, SC with Rev. Kenny Ashley and Rev. Todd Terry officiating.  Interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens, 1774 Filbert Hwy., York, SC.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Mr. Millen was born January 11, 1937, in Clover, SC, to the late James Robert Millen and Lula Ellen Gaskin Millen.  He was also preceded in death by Baby Millen, his grandson, James Lewis Millen, and his sisters, Nannie Millen Armstrong, Frances Millen Burton, Helen Naomi Millen, Wilma Millen Farris, and Grace Millen Faile.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joerine Terry Millen; his sons, Randall Perry Millen, Sr. (Tracy), Clover, SC, Mack Brian Millen (Marie), York, SC, and Robert Marion Millen, Clover, SC; his grandchildren, Katie Marie Millen, Randall Perry Millen, Jr., Matthew Brian Millen (Abby), and David Thomas Millen (Monika); and his sister, Carolyn Millen Bingham.

JT and Joerine were avid travelers:  going on cruises, Harley rides to Sturgis, Myrtle Beach, Florida, the mountains, and anywhere their riding group chose.  He was always a dedicated employee.  He worked at the Bleachery (Rock Hill Printing and Finishing), Cocker Machinery, and Siemens Westinghouse where he helped build the first turbine made by the Charlotte plant in 1969.  He traveled with Siemens Westinghouse, making repairs at power plants all over the country. He retired from Westinghouse when he was 58 years old.

JT always supported his family and community.  He followed and supported the Clover High School Blue Eagles football program.  He was a Bethel Fire Department charter member, a Mason at Alpine Lodge 208 in Clover, and a Hejaz Shriner and Shrine Bowl supporter.  He had a 24-year career with the South Carolina Army National Guard with the 263rd Armored Division in Clover, SC.

He was also an avid Clemson Tiger fan.  He would go to games all over the East Coast.  He was a hole in one golfer, and a member of the Siemens Westinghouse golf league.  He loved to ride his Harley and to fish.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 and to Clover School Distrist's, Biblical Studies Released Time, P. O. Box 858, Clover, SC 29710.
