James (Jim) Lawrence Reed passed away peacefully November 19, 2021.  He was born on November 20, 1929, in Fresno, CA, where he attended elementary, junior high and high school.  In 1947, Jim began attending UC Berkeley, and in 1952 was commissioned as an Army Artillery Officer, serving in Korea, Okinawa, and the North American Defense Command.  He then continued his education, completing graduate studies in entomology at the University of California at Davis.

After the leaving the University of California, Jim had a career spanning more than 35 years in private industry, which allowed his family and him to travel widely throughout the world and live in numerous locations throughout the United States.

During his lifetime, Jim always took time to build and nurture lasting friendships in the many places he lived.  He was a devoted father that did his best to attend the school events in which his children were engaged.  He taught his children, grandchildren, nephews, and niece the value of education, hard work, integrity, character, and how to have a sense of adventure and fun. He volunteered in his community as a mentor in the local high school and at his Lions Club chapter.

In 1992, Jim married and is survived by Harriette Schlirf Reed, residing with her in the River Hills community on Lake Wylie, SC.  In addition, Jim is survived by his daughter Michele and son-in-law Robert Liburdy, son Michael and daughter-in-law Cindy Reed, nephews Brad and Scott Reed and niece Andrea Boutselis with their spouses as well as Paul and wife Nancy Schlirf,  Mark Schlirf and grandchildren Sydney Reed, Laura Lester, John, Austin, Will Schlirf, and great grandson Logan Lester.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Grace, brother Patrick, and wife Rosemary.
