John, known to all as Tony Buckley of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
Tony was born February 12, 1946, in Warrington, Lancashire, England to the late John and Hazel Buckley (nee Watson). Tony was predeceased by his son, Adam John Buckley and his sister Barbara Burrows. Left to mourn with his family are his wife of 51 years, Jayne, daughter Victoria and granddaughters, Jane, Rylee and Baylee of Kamloops, BC, Canada.
Tony grew up in England and as a young man, went to Sale College, England then apprenticed as an Executive Chef in London. After working in Switzerland, he then travelled to the village of Aberdovey, Wales where he found his future wife Jayne. In 1971 they were married and emigrated to Vancouver, Canada where Tony worked for many years in the hospitality industry. They eventually made their home in Kamloops, BC where they welcomed their baby girl Victoria in 1981 and their son, Adam in 1984. Tony and Jayne then emigrated to the United States in 1999.
Over the years Tony used his many varied and creative talents designing and building restaurants and homes, two of which were on Lake Wylie, SC. Lake Wylie has been home for Tony and Jayne for the past 18 years. Tony was always eager to share the “Carolina Experience” with his family and friends who loved and respected him deeply.
Along with his unwavering love for his family, Tony, lovingly known as “Mr. Universe”, had an innate sense of adventure which was manifested through his beloved and somewhat daring escapades of surfing, waterskiing, snow skiing, white water rafting, skydiving, scuba diving and travelling to unique destinations with Jayne. However, all that came to a screaming halt in the last year of his life where all his fight, spirit and resolve was focused on fighting squamous cell cancer, whilst at the same time never once abandoning love or giving hope just one more chance.
He will always be loved and missed dearly.
A funeral service will be held at the family church of St Peter’s Anglican Church, Monte Creek, British Columbia, Canada on June 18, 2022 at 1pm.
