It is with great love and sorrow that we announce the passing of John Donald Wright, who passed away on May 12th, 2026, at the age of 77 in Columbus, Georgia.
John was born on August 2nd, 1948, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to John Donald Wright, Sr. and Martha Ferguson Wright.
John graduated from Columbus High School in 1966. Following his high school graduation, he attended the University of Georgia where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in 1970, and his Master of Arts in 1981.
John spent many years working in a variety of retail environments and grocers in Athens, Georgia as well as Columbus, Georgia including his most recent time at Piggly Wiggly.
He was a beloved brother, uncle and friend and was known for his love of art, antique cars, faith, and family. He was a member of the Columbus Artist Guild and received multiple awards throughout the years.
John (Johnny to his family) is survived by his brother Ronnie F. Wright and sister Kathy W. Wilson (Don), his niece Molly W. Simmons (Cole), nephews Brian W. Wilson (Julie) and Jake Wright, two great nephews Parker Lee Pulley and Wrye Wright Wilson, and his dear friend Pam Reese.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Donald Wright, Sr. and Martha Ferguson Wright.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 5pm – 7pm EST, at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA. A private family graveside service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., in Crowders Creek ARP Church Cemetery, 207 Crowders Creek Road, Gastonia, NC.
