It is with extreme sadness, yet ultimate joy and hope in Christ, that we share the passing of Johnny Louis Funderburk, 71, of Clover SC. Johnny was born September 1st, 1950, to the late Johnny “Jack” Funderburk and Mae Davis. He passed peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on January 23rd, 2022.
Johnny attended Clover schools graduating in 1968. Over the past few years, he thoroughly enjoyed monthly lunch outings with his classmates. Johnny worked at General Tire from 1969 to 1976 where he formed lifelong friendships. He later owned several businesses, primarily Granny’s Kitchen and Concord Cove. At Granny’s, Johnny supplied breakfast and lunch for those building and operating Catawba Nuclear station, as well as the surrounding community, for many years. Concord Cove was the finest fine dining establishments in the area during its years of operation. Both businesses were family owned and operated and those who worked for Johnny who weren’t family, soon became treated as if they were.
Johnny was most happy when surrounded by loved ones, be that while enjoying family gatherings, preparing food for his customers, serving drinks at a bar, playing poker with his pals, or just spending time and chatting with friends. Johnny loved to be in a crowd and the crowd always loved to be with Johnny; he was the life of the party no matter the setting.
Johnny was a faithful friend to those who loved him. Left behind to cherish his memory are a multitude of family and friends including daughters, Karen Puryear (Mark), Kristen Mullinax (James); brother Floyd Neal; Donna McSwain; Leslie Scoggins, Rhonda Grayson; his faithful companion and ferocious guard dog, Sir; grandchildren, Miranda Wade (Kevin), Emily Puryear (Alexander), Joseph Montgomery, Gigi Robinson, Eli Eason, Jake Friday, Maxine Grayson, Susannah Nivens, Reagan Scoggins; great grandchildren, Addison, Mallory, and Gabriel.
