Knut Marczinske Obituary

Mr. Knut Marczinske, 56, of Lake Wylie, SC

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m Saturday, September 5, 2020 at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 4820 Charlotte Highway, Lake Wylie, SC.

Mr. Marczinske was born in Berlin, Germany February 7, 1964 to Horst and Edelgard Marczinske.

Survivors are his wife Birgit Prikker; daughter Dorit; and sons Arnd, Bent and Claas, his father Horst Marczinske and his brother Karsten Marczinske.

His first contact with American language and culture began very early in Germany when he started attending the kindergarten class at the John-F.-Kennedy School in Berlin, a bilingual and bicultural school from which he graduated with the German Abitur and the American High School Diploma. He then went through an apprenticeship program as a locksmith and blacksmith and became a certified master craftsman for metal works before going back to college to graduate with a masters degree in environmental engineering.

He then started working for a company in noise and vibration control, which took him all over Europe, before joining Siemens Energy in Berlin. He worked for Siemens for almost 20 years in different capacities, first in Berlin, Germany, later in Orlando, Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina. During his time in Charlotte Knut was part of a mentoring program that supports colleagues in their professional development as well as various activities outside of his official duties.

Knut met his partner and later wife Birgit for 30 in years in Berlin, which is also the birthplace of their four children Arnd, Bent, Claas and Dorit. He has been spending as much time with his children as possible, be it attending their sports events, theatrical, musical or other events, enjoying every moment.

As a child Knut was involved in sports himself, trying different things before settling in on soccer and volleyball, which he actively played for many years. Besides sports he loved model trains, music, playing the piano as well as the Kangaba, traveling, and he was a passionate cook. His family will certainly miss his meals. His family and friends will especially miss his homemade bread and his curiosity for new recipes.
