Mrs. Laverne Beard, 84, of Clover, SC, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, SC.

Born January 12,1941 in Asheville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Otis Pryor and Blanche Plemmons Wilson who both proceeded her in death.

After graduation from high school, she worked for AT&T as an operator. She married Kenneth Rhodes.  They had four children together and raised their family just outside Charlotte in Midland, NC.  She was a career woman and held Customer Service positions at companies such as Delmar Studios, Parker Davis and the U. S.  Postal Service, all in Charlotte, NC.

Laverne married Mr. Roderick Young Beard who was the love of her life and between them, they raised 10 children.  Three of their children were adopted from foster care.  Laverne and Roddy loved their kids and animals.  Through Mrs. Beard’s affiliation with York County DSS, she and her husband fostered approximately 75 children over the decades.   

Laverne was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.  She was a positive driving force for all who loved her and sought her advice as a friend or family member. She never lacked the courage or strength of heart to follow her own path. Her laughter and her kind guiding light will be missed by all who knew her.
She was a member of the Collen Riddle Circle at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Clover, NC.

Mrs. Beard is survived by her husband, Roddy Beard; daughters Cindy Moore (Doug), Donna Rhodes (Angie) of Lexington, SC; son Kenneth Rhodes Jr. of Lake Wylie, SC; step children Roderick Beard (Julia) of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth Gibson (Ricky) of Marshville, NC, Russell Beard (Ester) of Clover, SC and Chris Beard of Clover, SC; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC for their care and support of Mrs. Beard and her family for the past few weeks.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2445 Hwy. 557, Clover, SC.  Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. before the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
