Major James Pean Chiu, U.S. Army, Retired, 73, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, SC.
Major Chiu was born September 27, 1952 in Helena, AK to the late Royal Chiu and Pearl Gee Chiu. Jim was proud to serve as an Infantry Officer for 20 years. He retired as a Major from the U.S. Army in 1994. After that, he also spent time with the U.S. Postal Service. Lastly, he served the Peachtree City Police Department/Fayette County Department of Education, as a Crossing Guard/Traffic Controller, where he met and made many friends.
Survivors are his wife of 32 years, Kathleen Sauvè Chiu; daughters Lisa Mahla (Philip), Shannon Hooton (Paul), and Erin Drum; grandchildren Parker Woodworth, Connor Woodworth, Mackenzie Mahla, Taylor Woodworth, Jameson Mahla, Trey Hooton, and Nate Hooton; sister Nancy Chiu; and brothers Harry Chiu (Mary) and Royal Chiu, Jr.
He was a very special man and much loved by his family.
Jim's Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum, 2405 W. Forest Home Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53215. The family will meet in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. followed by the viewing of the niche.
