We are saddened to announce the passing of Margaret Sue (Brown) McCarter, age 88, of York, South Carolina, she went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 31st at her home in York.
Born in Clover, South Carolina on July 30,1936, Margaret is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harold Dean McCarter. She is also survived by her two sons Kevin McCarter (Susan) of Charlotte, NC and Jeff McCarter (Andrea) of York, SC, adopted son Buddy Conners (Summer) of Conway, SC, and her brother Dave Brown. Margaret was the best Gramma to five grandkids Abbe, Ele, Ben, Haden, and Melia, and three adopted great-grandkids Valor, Autumn, and Ariah Conners.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lavinia Jackson Brown, and father, Samuel L. Brown.
Margaret attended Newberry College, worked in the office at Yale and Towne in Monroe, North Carolina, and then married her high school sweetheart, Harold Dean McCarter, on October 29, 1956, at Oakdale Presbyterian Church. In her free time, she loved to go to flea markets where she added to her collection of tea pots and pitchers. She also loved to crochet and play golf with Dean and their friends. Dean and Margaret also enjoyed attending Sunday School and church each Sunday at Oakdale since it began in 1951.
Margaret was active in her community and started a bridge club for friends in York which gathered Thursday nights at different houses. She was an avid Clemson fan and always loved to cheer on the Tigers with Dean and the rest of the family. She also loved making peanut brittle and homemade bread and made sure you never left the house without both. She enjoyed visiting people at nursing homes who didn’t have many visitors, and was always sure to bring them goodies, as well.
She was a friend to all and her friends and family all miss her very much. She will be remembered for her sweet demeanor, loving ways, and witty sense of humor.
The funeral service will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday, November 3rd, at Oakdale Presbyterian Church, 12585 W. Highway 55, Clover, SC with the Rev. Den Parker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the Oakdale Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.
