Mrs. Martha Olivia Jackson Rogers, 91, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at CaroMont Health, Gastonia, NC.
Celebration of Life will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2023 at M. L. Ford & Sons, 4820 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC with the Rev. Kenny Ashley officiating.
Mrs. Rogers was born October 28, 1931 in York, SC to the late William White and Mae Childers Jackson. She was born on the family farm, the 5th of 6 children. She met Pete, her husband of 64 years, on a blind date and married him at 19. She adored the family they created together: daughters Nancy Rogers and Elizabeth Hartley (Alan); sons Warren B. Rogers, III (Linda), Jeff Rogers (Cathy) and David Rogers (Chrys); eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Olivia was involved her whole life in activities that benefitted her kids or community. Her devotion to daughter Nancy, who has special needs, was unwavering every day of Nancy’s life. Olivia was her greatest fan and advocate.
In 1980, Nancy attended a camp for adults with special needs- Camp Joy, in the NC mountains- where she has attended every year since. Olivia and Pete became involved in the camp and deeply supported its mission. The camp staff became her close friends for life.
Olivia was well known for her unbounding hospitality, with an open door and a plate at the table for all. Thanksgiving was the highlight of her year, enjoying the whole family in one place for a week.
Olivia’s gifts of patience, hospitality, strength, humor, and devotion were obvious to all who came into her orbit. She loved generously and deeply; her legacy will live on in all of us.
Memorials may be made to Camp Joy (NC), 918 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Suite 127, Greenville, SC 29607 or online at www.CampJoy.net (donations tab)
