Mary Theresa Hoog Strubbe, age 75, passed away on April 14, 2023, at home in the arms of her children after a long fought battle of multiple cancers. She demonstrated unmatched strength and resilience for 28 years before it was time for her to rest in peace.
Theresa was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she grew up with her eight siblings, was a competitive swimmer (nicknamed “Tiger”), and graduated from Central Catholic High School. She spent the rest of her life enjoying her family and community in Glencoe, IL; Leawood, KS; and Fort Mill, SC. She was most proud of her career as a mother and caregiver, but also had a career in sales, real estate and community relations. She invested in her communities through her involvement as the President of Rotary, Board of Directors at Community Living Opportunities, and Board of Zoning Appeals at the Chamber of Commerce.
She was a gracious host and interesting conversationalist due to her dedicated interest in current events, sports, and reading. She was a woman of many interests and involvement, including most recently with her local book club and New Southern Women’s Club, but at the end of the day her children and grandchildren were the most important thing to her in the world. She was passionate about family traditions, created special experiences, and was the queen of pulling off surprises. She was also known for her beauty, her red hair and red lipstick, and a passion for her Irish heritage. When it wasn’t a special occasion, she simply loved to have everyone together in her home to share a meal or play a game of scrabble or gin rummy.
Theresa is survived by her siblings Lucille Poiry, Margaret Bosler, Joseph Hoog (Terri), William Hoog (Jackie), Alice Soder, Helen Korn (Steve), and Patrick Hoog (Alessandra), and sister-in-law Rebecca Hoog. She leaves behind her children Patrick Strubbe (Erika) and Christina Bailey (Scott). She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Ethan, Terra, William, Jude, and Bree. Grammy will be missed beyond words. She is preceded in death by her mother Frances Mary Clancy Hoog, her father Joseph Hoog, her brother Michael Hoog, and her daughter Tracy Strubbe.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm on April 23, 2023, at M. L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 4820 Charlotte Hwy, Lake Wylie, SC 29710. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
