Michael Daniel Bowers, 95, who owned and operated the architectural design firm M.D. Bowers & Associates, Inc., in Towson, Md., from 1976 to 1996, passed into the arms of our Lord on Nov. 1, 2025.
He grew up in Chesapeake Terrace in Baltimore County and was a graduate of Sparrows Point High School, where he lettered in sports and met his future wife, Lucette Edwards. During his youth, he worked at the old Bayshore Park, taking photographs and working at concessions.
After high school, Michael went to work as an electrician at Bethlehem Steel Co. He joined the Maryland Army National Guard June 23, 1948, achieving the rank of sergeant before being discharged three years later to enlist in the Navy in February 1951. He served as a hospital corpsman and medical photographer aboard the USS Dionysus and later the USS Everglades until 1954, achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal for his service.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked as a medical photographer at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fort Howard, Md. He married Lucette, who worked as a secretary at the hospital at that time, on Nov. 21, 1956.
He later became an architectural draftsman and designer, starting as a draftsman apprentice at Whitman Requardt and Associates before going on to work for Mark Beck Associates Architects, and later the Rouse Co., where he worked on projects including the development of Columbia, Md., and Harborplace in Baltimore. Starting in 1970, Michael took in freelance work before incorporating his own firm, M.D. Bowers & Associates, in August 1976; he retired in August 1996. One of the company’s major clients was the former Merry Go Round clothing chain, founded by entrepreneur Leonard “Boogie” Weinglass. Other clients included Winchester Homes and Ryland Homes.
Mike and Lucette were active members of the Towson United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years, participating in Couples Plus and planning Senior Adult travel bus trips. He and Lucette enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe, the United Kingdom and many states, and spending time at their beloved Fenwick Island, Del, beach condominium.
Mike was a 50+ year Mason, a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge No. 116, and participated in many corn husking events at Bonnie Blink.
Photography and performing close-up magic tricks remained his lifelong hobbies.
The son of Mary Watts Bowers (nee Aspelmeier) and Charles S. Bowers, Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lucette; his brother Charles S. Bowers Jr., his half-sister Madeline Watts and half-brothers Lawrence and George Watts.
