Mr. Thompson was born March 13, 1948 in Gastonia, NC to the late Walter Clark and Ann Long Thompson. He was a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School and a 1969 graduate from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO with a degree in Theology. Mike was an Associate Pastor to his father for 25 years and then Pastor of Shopton Road Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. He got the calling of God to pastor at Glenora Baptist Church, Mineral, VA from 1993-2001 and from there he moved back with family in 2001 to Clover, where he was the Associate Pastor and Music Minister of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mike accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal savior on August 15, 1966 and surrendered to preach that same day before heading to Springfield to study for the ministry. He has multiple Bible verses that helped him throughout his life but one of his favorites was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me” and another verse being Isaiah 40: 31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”.
Mike also worked in the York County School system for several years and also worked part time for Clover Knits.
He left behind his loving wife of 54 years, JoAnne Mayle Thompson, he met while at Baptist Bible College; sons Joey Thompson (Shelley) and John Thompson (Sierra); grandchildren Shelby, Sydney, and Aidan; sister Carole Grose (Ed); and other nieces and nephews.
He will forever be remembered and loved by his family and friends.
