Obituary

Mrs. Mildred Eloise Cook Mitchell, 91, of Clover, SC, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022, at home.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Filbert Presbyterian Church, 2066 Filbert Hwy, York, SC with the Rev. Dave Hall and Rev. Wallace Tinsley officiating.  Interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service in the Church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Mitchell was born May 22, 1930, in Clover, SC to the late Marion Alden and Herma Randall Cook. She was the widow of James Calvin Mitchell, Jr. and was also preceded in death by a son, James Stephenson Mitchell and a great grandson, Bradley Mitchell.

Survivors are her daughter Gail M. Collins of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law Mable P. Mitchell of Clover, SC; grandchildren Calvin Mitchell (Andrea) of Clover, SC, Brandi M. Williams (Ernie) of Clover, SC, Stephen Mitchell (Peggy) of Rock Hill, SC, Michael Mitchell (Melissa) of Clover, SC, and Amy Lockhart (John) of Charleston, SC; great grandchildren Holley Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell, and Isaac Mitchell; and a great-great granddaughter Ellowynn Mitchell.

Eloise was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.  Her home, where she lived for 72 years, served as the anchor for her family where love prevailed through life’s disappointments and joys.  Her husband, Jim, expressed his deep and abiding love for her in many cards and letters throughout their marriage.

She was blessed with many dear friends.  She treasured their sisterhood and especially their many traveling experiences throughout the country.

Eloise had an unwavering faith in God.  Not only was she an active member in her church, but her life reflected her beliefs by word and deed: She held regard for all humanity.  She had compassion for anyone in need.  She was humble and slow to anger.  She was not one to criticize, condemn or judge others but was accepting and forgiving.  These traits are indicative of her devotion and love of Christ and an embodiment of the Holy Spirit.

She was deeply loved by her family and admired by all who had the privilege to know her.

Memorials may be made to the Filbert Presbyterian Church, 2066 Filbert Highway, York, SC 29745 or Ellowynn Mitchell 529 College Fund, 1674 Cranium Drive, Suite 103, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
