Mr. Mu Liu, 61, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his home in Lake Wylie, SC.

Mr. Liu was born in Liuyang, China, on the lunar calendar date of April 3, 1963, according to family oral tradition. He married Yi “Shirley” Xie on July 12, 1986, and she survives him in Lake Wylie, SC. He was also preceded in death by his father, Zhanwang Liu.

Other survivors include his mother, Weihui Wang, of Liuyang, China; son, Steven (Shi) Liu, of Troy, Michigan; sister, Qingqing Liu, of Liuyang, China; granddaughter, Riley Liu; plus numerous half-siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews from his extended family in China.

Mr. Liu was widely regarded as a world-leading expert in the field of materials and mechanical engineering since completing his Ph.D. studies in China in 1995. After he moved to Lake Wylie in 2011 from Mississauga, Canada, due to his credentials, he worked tirelessly at Siemens Energy for over a decade to help the United States maintain a world-leading edge in high-tech manufacturing.

At home, Mu was a caring husband and father. His favorite thing was to spend time with his granddaughter and to collect and savor rare, high-grade teas from around the world.

As his final wish, Mr. Liu requested his funeral and burial to be conducted privately with only his immediate family.
