Nadara “Dara” Hughes Andrews
June 22, 1930
Nadara ‘Dara” Hughes Andrews was born June 22, 1930 in Horry County, SC to the late Walter and Evelyn Hughes.
A Memorial Service for Nadara Andrews is scheduled for Sunday, June 6th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church, 250 Ridge Road, Clover, SC 29710. There will be small pickups in the Fellowship Hall afterwards.
Mrs. Andrews attended Gastonia schools and graduated from Gastonia High School. She was employed as an accountant for various firms and later worked as a reservationist with Eastern Airlines.
Mrs. Andrews was active in foster care in both North and South Carolina and various other organizations including Home Extension Clubs. She was an advocate for Women’s Rights and helped lead a group of women to convince NC Senators to pass numerous Women’s Right’s Bills, including the right to own property and finances in their own names.
Mrs. Andrews was an active member of Bowling Green Presbyterian Church. She was also an active member of the Piedmont Daylily Club where she served as co-President with her husband for many years and was a Senior Exhibition Judge. She was also a member of the American Hemerocallis Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James “Jim” E. Andrews, and brothers Buddy & Jimmy Hughes.
Survivors are sisters Kathleen Gaydos, of Missouri & Nell Baker of Fayetteville, NC. Daughters: Rev. Janet A. Henson of Gastonia, NC, Anita A. Mitchell & husband Gregg of Charlotte, NC, Linda A. Poley of Charlotte, NC, and Nancy A. Bryant & husband Eddie of Clover, SC. Grandchildren: Andrew Tench of High Shoals, NC, Jonathan Tench of Clover, SC, Steven E. Henson, Jr. of Gastonia, James Henson & wife Monica of Gastonia, Erin M. Williams & husband Andy of Concord, NC, Neil Mitchell & wife Kimberly of McConnells, SC, Jeffrey Poley & wife Lindsey of Indian Land, SC, and Dana P. Barker & husband Todd of Indian Land, SC. Great-grandchildren: Anna, Natalie & Jake Henson of Gastonia, Hollie Sims of Crouse, NC, Zoie Whitlock of High Shoals, NC, Skylar Tench of Clover, SC, Camden Barker of Indian Land, SC, James Poley of Indian Land, SC, and Ryder and Catherine Williams of Concord, NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
