Nancy Elizabeth Smith Davis, age 83 of, Clover SC, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Agape Hospice House, Columbia, SC.
Nancy was born to the late Frank Monroe Smith and Martha Rebecca Pursley Smith in Gastonia, NC on May 13, 1938. A native of Clover, Nancy graduated from Clover High School in 1956 and received a BA from University of South Carolina in Columbia in 1960. Nancy was a school teacher in Beaufort, Clover, and Columbia before meeting and married Thomas Gordon Davis, Jr of Greenville SC in 1965. They lived in Columbia SC before moving to Bradenton FL in 1978. She moved back to Clover in 1985 and is survived by her two sons, Thomas G Davis III and Frank M Davis both of Bradenton FL, and her cat Beau of Clover. She had one brother, Frank Pursley Smith, deceased and also from Clover.
As a teenager, Nancy was a debutante in Rock Hill in 1956 and represented Clover as a Carousel Princess in 1955. After raising her two sons, Nancy became a freelance writer and had articles published in several news periodicals including Cosmopolitan magazine. She continued her passion for writing throughout her life.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Woodside Cemetery, Clover SC with the Rev. David Stover officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at 417 Knox Street, Clover, SC.
