Mrs. Nancy Elaine Gray Stovcsik, 73, of Lake Wylie, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Elaine was born July 8, 1950, in New Kensington, PA, to the late John Robert (Red) and B. Marie Heasley Gray. She was a graduate of Valley High School and Pittsburgh Art Institute.
She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Stovcsik, in 1970, and together they built a strong foundation of love and devotion for their three children and grandchildren. Family was the center of her world and time spent together was full of love and laughter. A favorite gathering was the annual Pierogi Day tradition held the Saturday after Thanksgiving when the whole family would spend the day making 30+ dozen pierogis.
Elaine was an avid Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan and was proud to wear her black and gold whether she was living in the Pittsburgh area, Atlanta, GA, Tempe, AZ, or the Carolinas. She worked for a number of years in administrative support roles at Fox Chapel School District before retiring in 2013. In retirement, she turned her attention to trying recipes and new cooking techniques from the Food Network and sharing them with her family. Her golden retriever, Max, was her constant companion.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Richard Stovcsik, Jr.; daughter Amanda L. Stovcsik Romanowsky (Adam) of Apollo, PA; sons Matthew J. Stovcsik (Catherine) of Lake Wylie, SC and Joseph R. Stovcsik, III (Rene Hatlelid) of Colchester, CT; sister Ruth Oaks (John); brothers Robert Gray (Jan) and Russell Gray; and grandchildren Maya Stovcsik, Jonah Stovcsik, Travis Rogal, and Taylor Romanowsky as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15 at 2pm-4pm & 6pm-8pm and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 16 at 11am at Rusiewicz Funeral Homes, Inc. - Lower Burrell at 3124 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068.
