Paul Michael Swoveland, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 79, in Atrium Health, Pineville, NC.
Mr. Swoveland was born on September 5, 1946, in Hartford City, IN, to the late Rex Michael Swoveland and Martha Jane Thomas Swoveland. Paul was a man of great vitality, known for his thoughtful nature, courage, and adventurous spirit.
After graduating from Hartford City High School in 1965, Paul's quest for knowledge and passion for service led him to Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. His love for sports was evident during his high school and college years, where he excelled in track and basketball, demonstrating not only his athletic prowess but also his dedication and team spirit.
Paul's commitment to his community took a professional turn when he graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy in 1974. His diverse interests and skills were further highlighted by his achievements, such as earning a Scuba Diver Certification in 1975, learning Survival Tactics in 1978, and mastering DNR Photography in 1989. These accomplishments reflected his multifaceted personality and his eagerness to embrace life's challenges.
Professionally, Paul was highly respected as the Security Manager at Charlotte Douglas Airport, where his leadership and expertise ensured the safety and security of countless travelers.
Paul's life was not confined to his professional achievements; his interests were as broad and deep as his character. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found solace and joy in the embrace of nature. He was an enthusiast of history and frequently visited historical places, where he connected with the past.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Laura Velez Cruz Swoveland; his daughter, Lynn Dee S. Perkins (Tony), Kansas City, KS; his sons, Matt M. Swoveland, Bluffton, IN, and Max Swoveland (Laurie), Gregville, IN; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his sister, Susan “Susy” Ann Tobey (Fred), Hartford City, IN; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tim W. Swoveland.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, at M. L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 4820 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC.
