Peter James Ruel, 71, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 11, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY, Peter was the beloved son of the late Walter E. Ruel and Patricia Ann Church Ruel. He later grew up in Clearwater, FL alongside his five surviving siblings, Pamela, Robert, Theresa, John, and Paul.
Peter was a proud veteran who honorably served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid. He carried the values of service, strength, and dedication throughout his life.
Above all else, Peter was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Maureen Ruel, and their five children: Teresa Ruel (Jared), Christine Lorusso (Chris), Catherine Lopez (Ivan), Lauren Armstrong (Ryan), and Robert Ruel (Rachel). He was a proud and deeply cherished “Pop Pop” to his eight grandchildren: Olivia, Chris, Luke, Michael, Leah, Avery, Alexander, and Baby Armstrong, expected November 2026.
Peter will be remembered as a beloved husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest joy came from spending time with the people he loved most. Guided by his Catholic faith, Peter faced life with courage, generosity, and grace. He found great comfort in his faith and shared that sense of peace and love with everyone around him. Peter enjoyed golfing, relaxing at the beach, floating in the lazy river, and making lifelong memories with his family.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 530 Highway 274, Lake Wylie, SC. A Celebration of Life will follow at Sweetwater in Lake Wylie.
