Mr. Richard Ray “Dick” Barnes of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, passed  away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home in River Hills Plantation on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. 

He was born December 8, 1942, to the late Raymond Monroe Barnes and Hazel “Snookie” Barnes.  He was preceded in death by his sister Ramona Everett, his brother Kenneth Barnes and his precious daughter Rhona Leah Barnes.

Dick was a Senior Chief in the United States Coast Guard (Retired) for twenty years. After retiring from the military he entered civilian life and began a successful career as Regional Manager for DeVry University. This career path took him from his beloved Texas to the Carolinas, where he retired after twenty eight years to do what he truly loved - play golf. For the remainder of his years he could be found in his happy place -the River Hills Country Club golf course. When he wasn’t golfing he was traveling with his beautiful wife, Joan, and their constant companions, Joan’s sister Donna and her husband Rudy Gaddi. He was a long time member of the River Hills Lions Club, volunteering and helping the community he loved for over 27 years.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Joan H. Barnes; his daughters, Wanda Sue Raus, Belmont, NC, and Deana Renee Bartruff (Eric), Lake Wylie, SC; his grandchildren, Summer Raus, Karsyn Bartruff, Connor Bartruff, and Corbin Bartruff; and his great grandchildren, Autumn Raus, Triston Raus, and Maddie Raus.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2023, at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly Church, 5766 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC, with the Rev. Lewis Gunn officiating.
