Mrs. Rita Ann Summey Dulin, 71, of Bowling Green, SC, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at CaroMont Health, Gastonia, NC.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2021, at her beloved Bowling Green Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lisa Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Dulin was born October 20, 1950, in Charlotte, NC, to the late James Marion (JM) and Mildred Helton Summey. She grew up in North Belmont and was a long-time member of Centerview Baptist Church. After graduating from Belmont Senior High School, she started her life in retail sales at Woolco Department Store in the old Gaston Mall. After 20 years, Woolco closed its doors and Rita began working in the candy department at Belks. While at Belks a co-worker played matchmaker and introduced her to the man who became the love of her life. She retired from Belks in 2020. Rita loved her church and her family and was loved in return. If you were a part of her family, you received a call AND a card for every holiday, birthday, anniversary, or any special event in your life. She will be missed greatly.
Survivors are her husband of 33 years Mike Howell Dulin; sister Linda S. Bolin (Dennis) of Gastonia, NC; brothers Jim Summey (Myra) of Gastonia, NC, and Tom Summey (Nancy) of Stanley, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
During her 33-year marriage, she cared for many, many farm animals and developed an enormous love for each of them. They were a part of her family, and they knew it. She had a name for each and no two had the same name. All she had to do was call their name and they would come running to her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202 (www.heifer.org).
